Students from Middlesboro Independent Schools assisted Michael Boyd, Wastewater Treatment Plant and Stormwater manager, in labeling several drains in the community Monday. The labels that were placed on the drains read “no dumping.” There were eight labels placed on drains around the area. The main objective for doing this project with the children was to educate them about stormwater. Boyd said many people believe that stormwater enters the drains and goes to the wastewater treatment plant. He stated materials that enter the drains does not go to the plant. Instead it goes directly into the streams. This is why he felt it was important to educate the students and adults about stormwater drains and dumping.
