Crazy Aunt Sadie’s Yard Sale was successful despite a woeful weather forecast, organizers said.
Alderman Joan Webb was pleased with the turnout of both the weather and visitors to Cumberland Gap.
“It never did rain on us,” said Webb. “We’ve had a good crowd of shoppers.”
But according to Fire Chief John Adams, the prediction of bad weather did hinder the amount of people who set up.
“Not everyone that signed up, showed up,” said Adams. “About 20 set up.”
Despite some people backing out of the event, booth rentals for the event raised $100 for the Cumberland Gap Volunteer Fire Department. The charge for booth rentals was $5 for residents and $10 for out-of-towners.
In addition to the booth rentals, money was raised for the fire department through selling donations from the community.
Overall, more than $300 was raised for the fire department.
According to Adams, the fire department is using the money raised from the sales to make necessary repairs to the rescue truck.
A fall Crazy Aunt Sadie’s Yard Sale will take place on Oct. 5.
