Middlesboro ARH Hospital held an open house on Tuesday for the newly opened cath lab.
Members of the community were invited to take a tour of the hospital’s newest addition, learning about how the lab worked and the benefits of having it at the local hospital.
The cath lab actually opened earlier this year, but the open house was held this week.
CV Radiology Technician for the mobile cath Mike Miracle discussed how the obvious benefit of having the cath lab is so patients can receive as much treatment as possible on a local level.
“A lot of times our patients don’t have to have anything done intervention wise. They can get treated (here) with medicine,” explained Miracle.
Miracle also explained to participants how the cath lab works.
“While we are doing the heart caths and taking our pictures of the arteries, we’ve also got (the patient) hooked up to the mac lab,” continued Miracle.
The mac lab monitors numerous patient vitals to ensure the testing runs as smoothly as possible.
In the event a patient does need additional testing or treatment not offered at Middlesboro ARH, the hospital is equipped with the necessary procedures to get the patient immediate help.
“If somebody does come in and needs something immediately,” said Miracle. “We fly them out or send them by ambulance.”
