The annual Red Bud Garden Party, promoted by Bell County Tourism and Tour Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY), was held on Friday in Middlesboro at the historic American Association Building, site of Bell County Tourism offices.
“We are a certified Red Bud community,” stated Judy Barton, representing Bell County Tourism.
Maggie Bill, community awareness coordinator for Tour SEKY, was in attendance. Tour SEKY promoted the event online and through social media.
Each guest received a free red bud seedling and were encouraged to take and plant.
“Over 500,000 red buds have been planted throughout southern and eastern Kentucky over the past few years as recommended and encouraged by Hal Rogers,” said Barton.
Some of the events for participants to enjoy included a red bud photography contest judging and a hat contest.
There was a beautiful display of food, ranging from sandwiches, fruit, punch and desserts.
Hat awards went to Shelia Miracle, Joyce Mears and Shirley Sharpe.
Miracle won the “I Can’t Believe She Wore That” award.
Last year, Miracle won the “Most Creative Hat” award, so her originality and flare are becoming an expected norm.
“Most Creative Use of Flowers” hat award went to Joyce Mears.
The esteemed “Most Beautiful Hat” award went to Shirley Sharpe.
