Members of the community are once again showing support for their beloved Pastor Bill Poore.
On Tuesday, a Medic Replacement Blood Drive was held for Poore. The drive took place in the Big Lots parking lot from 11 a.m. t0 6 p.m. The drive was so successful three additional drives are being scheduled.
This is the second blood drive that has taken place thus far. The first drive was held at Middlesboro ARH hospital on April 8. Thirty-four units of blood were donated at the first drive and the second drive surpassed that number halfway through the day.
Sherry Taylor Hoskins, the second drive organizer, is working with Medic Donor Resource Coordinator Matthew Calfee, a Harrogate native, to quickly schedule three additional drives.
Calfee has been instrumental in organizing the drives.
“We are just thankful for the time Medic has given us,” said Hoskins. “And very thankful to Matthew. He has gone above and beyond.”
According to Hoskins, all three events will take place in Middlesboro. The dates and times have yet to be determined, but will be announced when scheduled.
One of the drives is tentatively scheduled to be held at the Middlesboro Mall.
Poore was admitted to the Pineville Hospital on Friday with pneumonia. Although he cannot receive visitors at this time, he can receive cards of support and best wishes.
Members of Bennett’s Baptist Church have been working diligently to raise money to help him pay for medical related expenses as he continues his treatment for MDS.
Poore has been fighting (MDS) for the past three years.
MDS was once commonly known as pre-leukemia because the disease usually turns into Myelogenous Leukemia.
