William John “Johnny” White

died  
PINEVILLE — William John “Johnny” White, age 52, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011, at his home.

Born November 1, 1958, in Russell County, Va., he was the son of the late Lucian Odell White. Johnny referenced God and Jesus Christ. He was a coal miner and foreman for 29 years. He also loved muscle cars and restoring them.

In addition to his father, his was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie White; and special friend, Carl Wayne Ramsey.

Survivors include his loving wife and best friend of ten years, Sonvia Lea Ramsey White; children, Brooke Lindsey White and Johnlea Brooke White; all coal miners and co-workers; special friends, Louise and Lester Saylor, Bobbie Beverly, Jackie Hoskins, Darrell Lowe, James and Matthew Roark, and Terry Bingham

Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Mathel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Darrell Lowe, the Rev. James Roark, and the Rev. Hardy Franks presiding. Music was by the Mathel Church singers.

A graveside services was held at 11a.m. Monday at Pinelawn Memorial Gardens in Pineville. Pallbearers were Jeff Baker, Bobby Beverly, Terry Bingham, Dexter Wayne Ramsey, Tony Saylor, Tommy Sullivan, and Matthew Roark.

The family received friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the Mathel Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Stella (Partin) Lambdin

Stella (Partin) Lambdin

TOLEDO, Ohio — Stella (Partin) Lambdin, age 97, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Born February 18, 1914, she was the daughter of the late James and Sara (Maison) Partin of Frakes. She married Phillip J. Lambdin on June 8, 1934, in Pruden, Tenn. She was a member of Athens Missionary Baptist Church in Walbridge, Ohio.

Her family will dearly miss the wonderful stories she shared with them over the years.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Helen Lowe of Holland, Ohio, Kernie (Wanda) Lambdin of Maumee, Ohio, and Donna Carr of Toledo, Ohio; sister, Argie Partin of Clairfield, Tenn.; grandchildren, Janice (Brett) Rhonehouse of Holland, Ohio, Gary (Tina) Lambdin of Pineville, Tina (Danny) Dusseau of Toledo,Ohio, Jeff (Judy) Lambdin of Tazwell, Tenn., Tonya Carr of Waterville, Ohio, and Jim (Michelle) Carr of Toledo, Ohio; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip in 1985; son, Cecil in 1990; five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Wednesday at the New Vine Missionary Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in the New Vine Cemetery at Frakes.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Creech Funeral Home.

Ray "Possum" Sizemore

died  
PINEVILLE — Ray “Possum” Sizemore passed away Friday, July 22, 2011, at Pineville Community Hospital. Born August 19, 1938, in Rella Ky., he was the son of the late James Sizemore and Cleo Woolum Siemore. He was an eight year Army veteran, and had been employed by Brock Cable for ten years, and the Bell County Board of Education as a janitor for 17 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael Sizemore on December 25, 2006. He was also preceded in death by three sisters; Irene Collett, Loudene Smith and Neilly Collett.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Sizemore; loving son, David Sizemore; and his granddaughter he loved so much, Katelynn Sizemore, He is also survived by two loving daughters-in-law, Chris Sizemore and Karen Saylor Sizemore; two brothers, Albert and Paul Sizemore; adopted grandchildren who loved him so much, Stephen Collett, Angel Collett, Stephanie and Jay Brock, Jared and Cameron Saylor; two brothers-in-law, Gene and Jimmy Collett; and a sister-in-law, Wanda Collett.

The family received friends at the Arjay Pentecostal Church on Monday, July 25, 4-10 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at the Sizemore family Cemetery at Arjay, with lifelong friend Kenneth Carnes presiding.

Honorary pallbearers will be Al Brock, Connie Brock, and Ed Durham. Pallbearers will be Steve Collett, Stephen Collett, Jay Brock, Billy Collett and Joe Cook.

Jack Miller

MT. STERLING, Ky. — Jack Miller, age 90, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011.

Born in Harlan, Ky., on October 5, 1920, he was the son of the late Charles Samuel and Nell Brown Miller. He lived his early years in Williamsburg, Ky., and in 1940, he led Williamsburg High School to the state basketball tournament and was a member of the All State/All Tournament team.

He entered World War II in 1941, and served his country in the U. S. Army until he was wounded during the Allied invasion of Normandy in July 1944. He received the Purple Heart for his combat actions.

On his return from the war he attended and graduated from Lincoln Memorial University, and received a masters degree from the University of Louisville. He then returned to Williamsburg where he had a successful career as a teacher,

coach, and superintendant of Williamsburg City Schools.

In June 1962 he became superintendant of Mt. Sterling City Schools. During his career in

education he was instrumental in guiding both school districts through difficult times in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

He continued to be a public servant after retiring from the school system in 1978. He was elected mayor of the city of Mt. Sterling and served as Kentucky Executive Director for Disabled American Veterans. He continued to volunteer in many capacities with the Veteran’s Administration until his passing.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Sterling and the Mt.

Sterling Rotary Club. He is also the subject of an oral history project on his life and career conducted by the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky Libraries.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mildred Massengill Miller.

Survivors include two daughters, Colette Miller Stevenson (Matthew)

of Annapolis, Md., Jackie Miller of Mt. Sterling; two sons, Sam Miller (Bo) of Mt. Sterling and Eddie Miller (Chris) of Huntington, W. Va.; five grandchildren, Ellen (Scott) Wells of Alaska, Casey (Chris) Miller

of Paducah, Ky., Katie (Shane) Pearson of Madison, Wisc., Erin (Kevin) Meehan of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Sarah (Ken) Kerr of San Diego, Calif.; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris (Ernest) Croley of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; two brother-in-laws, Buddy and Harold Massengill of Middlesboro; and six sister-in-laws, Emma Miller of Danville, Ky., Susan Miller of Adams Run, S.C.,Thelma Williams of Louisville, Ky., Susie (James) Pursiful, Helen Harris, and Wilma (Everett ) Mays, all of Middlesboro.

Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, July 24 at Taul Funeral Home of Mt. Sterling. Funeral services were held at the Taul Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 25, with the Rev. Rick Johnson officiating.

Burial followed in the Machpelah Cemetery.

Military rites were provided by Fort Knox Burial Detail, the Kentucky National Guard, who served as pallbearers, and American Legion Post #22.

Austin Rousey Campbell

HAMPTON, Va. — Austin Rousey Campbell, age 80, died Tuesday, September 16, 2010, as he lived, with grace, dignity, courage, a giving heart, and an incredible sense of humor.  

Born in Middlesboro, he was the son of Austin Sterling Campbell and Sarah Rousey Campbell. He attended school in Middlesboro, was an avid and loyal member of the ANV club, and worked at Gibson’s Music Store, repairing watches. After working for F.W. Woolworth, in Norfolk, Va., he then embarked on a career as a grocer that spanned several decades. He set up and opened stores for Winn Dixie; managed The Cat and Fiddle in Danville, Va.; then became a vice president with Greenbelt Cooperative in Hampton, Va. The last 14 years of his long exemplarily career, Mr. Campbell owned and operated CAMCO Supermarket in Hampton.  

His parents, Austin Sterling Campbell and Sarah Rousey Campbell, preceded him in death, as did his first wife, Carolyn C. Hardin; his second wife, Myra J. Campbell; his two sons, Kenneth Austin Campbell and Kevin Thomas Campbell; and his daughter, Becky L. Farley.

He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Campbell Fowler, Kathryn Campbell Kervin, Pamela Jane Baines, Anne Baines Colgan, Tina Marie Woody; son, Donnie L. Baines; grandchildren, Joseph Campbell Kervin, Sarah Elizabeth Fowler, Matthew Colgan, Morgan Farley, Byron Farley and Amy Wilson, Steven Lee Booth and, Joshua W. Booth; and great grandchildren, Colby Matthew Booth, Nolan Wilson, Addie Wilson; siblings, Patsy C. Givens (Robert Bruce), June C. Surface, Marion Ruth Hood (Robert), Jacqueline C. Redmon, Edith W.Todd, Kathryn C. Rector (Lester), David B. Campbell (Donna); and by his beloved ANV brothers, Don Emmett and Bill Rector; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and aunt, Sarah Rousey.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 25, at Providence Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard Barnes. Interment was in Parklawn Memorial Park.

The family received friends Friday, September 24, from 7-9 p.m. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Downtown Hampton.
