A New TV Show In Town

Two of the three months of spring have now come and gone. What an eventful two months it has been. For a person that describes themself as a “dirt farmer”, time and circumstances have changed my outlook on organic gardening. The first major change came at the end of February, when I was invited to a testimonial dinner by the Bell County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, for my work in promoting organic gardening in the area. This was truly an honor, and I was made aware of the fact that my work to get back to basics by gardening organically, was finally being heard.

The second, and this a life-altering episode, come during a visit to the L.M.U. campus, when Dr. Gary Burchett, past president of L.M.U., and now executive producer of the new show, said to me in a casual off hand way, “I’m going to give you at T.V. show”. I was struck dumb. Two days later, on April 9, I asked the show’s now executive liaison, Regina Burns, to call Dr. Burchett and verify what I had heard. I had heard correctly! I was now a T.V. producer!

I only know as much as you do about T.V. We all sit and look at a piece of glass, never thinking about what actually happens on the other side of the screen to make the T.V. show come to life. We see titles, such as executive producer, producer, director, etc., but what do they actually contribute to creating a show. For those of us completely unfamiliar with a T.V. production we have instantly entered a nether world. My cameraperson, Nikki Harville, became my guiding light. As producer, I was supposed to be “in charge”, but that was a problem within a riddle within an enigma.

I can confess all of this now, as the show has produced half a dozen episodes, and viewer response has been wonderful. As someone that watched very little television before all of this came about, my transition to television has, fortunately, been ephemeral, and we can now proceed to make interesting episodes.
