According to witnesses and police reports, a gray Chevy Lumina, occupied by two adults and three children, was turning turn left onto Londonderry when a Ford SUV driven by Penelope Lester of New Tazewell, Tenn., hit the Lumina while traveling southbound on 25E. One of the occupants of the Lumina was identified as James Sandifer. It was not known at press time if he was the driver of the car. The accident is still under investigation by Troopers Bob Morelock and Eric Philips of the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Sandifer and another adult that was in the Lumina were flown by Lifestar to UT Hospital where they are still being treated. Another small child was ejected from the vehicle was also flown to UT Medical Center where she is recovering. Lester's condition was not known at press time. An infant that was riding in the Lumina was taken to Middlesboro ARH for further evaluation and is expected to recover. No further information was available at press time. Tennessee Highway Patrol still investigating.
