According to Kentucky State Police, Gregory T. Ely Jr., 20, was traveling east on Kentucky Hwy 72 at about 10:30 p.m. Friday when he lost control of the four-wheeler on a slippery road surface.
The ATV left the roadway and hit a tree. Ely was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by Bell County Coroner Clyde Creech. He was not wearing a helmet.
Highway 72 was closed for over two hours while troopers investigated the scene. The accident is still under investigation by Trooper Keith Baker. He was assisted at the scene by Troopers Ryan Sizemore, Jimmy Young, and Brian Green.
