WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-5) announced today that the Red Bird Volunteer Fire Department in Beverly is receiving an $85,500 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that will be used to purchase a new firefighting vehicle.

"Our small, rural fire departments face a lot of challenges, not the least of which is the challenge to come up with the money required to purchase essential firefighting equipment and gear," said Rogers. "This federal grant is a solid investment in the firefighters of the Red Bird Volunteer Fire & Rescue and the people they bravely protect."

Rogers works to provide funding for the DHS grant program in his role as chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security.
