BARBOURVILLE - It may have been homecoming night for the Barbourville Lady Tigers, but it seemed like "Mills night" for the Pineville Lady Lions.

Callie Mills scored 28 points, several of which were 3-point baskets and Monica Mills scored 17 points to lead the Lady Tigers to a 60-43 win over the visiting Lady Lions.

Barbourville maintained the lead throughout the game. The margin was 10 points at the end of the first quarter and nine points at the half.

The game never seemed in doubt for Barbourville as it continued to dominate the scoring with the Lady Tigers widening the lead by as much as 23 points in the final quarter.

"We knew she (Monica Mills) was their best player and we really kind of focused on her and I think we did pretty well on her because she has the size advantage to us," Pineville coach Elizabeth Madon said.

"But the other one (Callie Mills) shot the lights out. We tried defense after defense and nothing seemed to work," Madon added.

"Our number two guard, Lindsey Howard, didn't come out the second half. She is nursing a bad ankle and we miss her on defense," Madon added.

Chastity Fuston scored 15 points for the Lady Lions, followed by Ashley Madon and Melodye Smith who each had eight points in the losing effort.

"She's (Monica Mills) been back the last four games ago or so. She brought life kind of back into this team. She's just the spark that they need. She's the energy that they really need," assistant coach Amanda Marlow said. "Monica did her job underneath. She got after it defensively and you've got to give credit to our guard, Stacey Grubb she really put some pressure on their point guard and she did her job. Our offense came from our defense and it stepped up tonight and we came out on top," she added.

Barbourville ended their season on a winning note and both teams will be looking forward to district play beginning next week.

Host Barbourville (7-16) will open the 50th District Tournament on Monday, taking on Whitley County. Pineville (12-15) will play Red Bird on Monday in the opening round of the 51st District Tournament at Middlesboro.
