HARROGATE - After tearing through their first six games of the season unscathed, the Lincoln Memorial University softball team seems ready to step its game up a notch with this weekend's competition in the annual Gulf South Conference/Sunshine State Conference Crossover held in Valdosta, Georgia.

After rolling over opponents Mars Hill College and Georgetown College in the past two weeks, the LMU women sent the Lady Cobras of Virginia Intermont College back to Bristol Wednesday evening with something to think about until the two teams meet again later on in the year. The Lady Railsplitters steam rolled Virginia Intermont 11-0 and 7-2 to improve to 6-0 entering this weekend's outing.

Junior Danielle Sowders (Knoxville, Tennessee) and senior Kristen Hutchison (Benicia, California) both finished the first game of the afternoon two for two at the plate with Hutchison recording two RBI, while teammate Alisa Burk (Blaine, Washington) was two for three at the plate with three RBI and senior Judy Hornsby (Folsom, California) went one for two with three RBI and her fourth homerun of the year.

Inside the circle, sophomore Brittney Walker (Ooltewah, Tennessee) logged her second win of the season to move to 2-0 by tossing five innings of work, giving up just one hit, and no runs with a walk and eight strikeouts in sixteen batters faced.

Game two saw much of the same however, this time it took the Lady Railsplitters a little longer to get the bats going. LMU recorded seven runs behind ten hits with three errors in their second win of the day. Hutchison again finished the game two for two at the plate with an RBI, while Sowders and Hornsby each went two for three with Honrsby picking up two RBI.

Junior Rachel Ray (Hartsville, Tennessee) got the start in the second game of the day. Ray went six innings of work, giving up four hits, one run and no earned runs, with one walk and seven strikeouts before teammate Jessica Stewart (London, Tennessee) entered in the top of the seventh to close the door on the Lady Cobras Stewart pitched one full inning, giving up one hit, and one rim as LMU improved to 6-0 on the year.

This weekend the competition level will increase drastically for the Lady Railsplitters in the GSC/SSC Crossover. LMU will play Nova Southeastern and Florida Tech on Friday and the University of Tampa, St. Leo and Lynn University on Saturday. On Sunday the Lady Splitters will close out the crossover against Barry University.
