The New Tazewell Police Department acted quickly and successfully apprehended Rosmary "Pansy" Sheckles, age 19 of Cumberland gap, as she fled the scene of an accident Friday evening, March 18 at around dusk. Sheckles was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injury, No Drivers License, No Insurance, and Having a Traffic Control Device in the vehicle.
According to the Crash Report filed by Patrolman Richard Arnwine, '23 year-old, Larry Ray Noe of Tazewell was traveling South on Hwy. 33 in a '92 , Red, Nissan 240 Sx, with passengers Henry C. Noe, 62 of Tazewell, and Chris Robinson of New Tazewell, when Sheckles pulled into their path.
Sheckles, who was driving a '96, Black Dodge, NEH, is reported to have entered the road after failing to stop for the traffic light at England's Industrial Drive and Hwy. 33. She also appeared to have been drinking alcohol, which was also found to be present. No charges were filed against her passenger, Thomas L. Walker of Harrogate.
It was almost dark when Noe, unable to react to Sheckles failure to stop, struck Sheckles car in the front driver's side corner. After that, Noe's vehicle continued on to eventually strike a guard rail before coming to a stop. Emergency officials responded to the scene, and the injured were transported to Claiborne County Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
