The Middlesboro Lady Jackets picked up yet another regional win Friday, slipping past Clay County 3-2.

The Lady Tigers boast the region's top singles player, Sarah Yost, and opened the match with a victory as Yost defeated Avani Dholokia 6-1, 6-0.

Megan Mars defeated Clay's Melanie Smith in the No. 2 singles match before Ashley Roark fell to Sarah Burchell to give Clay a 2-1 advantage following singles play.

Middlesboro's win came with the doubles teams of Emily Schneider and Emily Osborne and Emily Crawford and Natalie Dubin.

Schneider and Osborne rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win and Crawford and Dubin, both eighth graders, won 6-1, 6-4 over Clay County's Jordan Bowling and Adrien Sibert to give Middlesboro the match.

The victory improved Middlesboro to 8-2 overall and gave then a victory over each regional opponent they have faced. The Lady Jackets are 1-1 against Corbin and 1-1 against J. Frank White, Tenn.

Middlesboro coach Benny Collins said senior night festivities hampered the Lady Jackets' efforts in last week's loss to J. Frank White.

"We took almost 20 players to the match and on the return trip we had two on the bus," he said. "Everyone went to the honors banquet. If we could have played our normal lineup ... I think we would have been looking at another outcome. Not to take anything away from (J. Frank White). They have a really good tennis team and should do great things in the postseason."

Middlesboro will host North Laurel today.
