Middlesboro High School juniors and seniors were given a lesson in the results of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs through the Fatal Vision Program presented by officers from the Middlesboro Police Department.

The two day program began with classroom instruction from officer David Buis. In this portion of the program students are given a demonstration of the field sobriety test, and statistics on accidents, deaths, and injuries resulting from driving under the influence.

The second day, the students have the opportunity to drive golf carts through an obstacle course while wearing goggles that distort their depth perception depending on the state of intoxication.

Assisting Buis with this portion of the program were MPD Officers Joshua Burchett and Joe Holder. Pictured is one of the officers riding with a student as he attempts to drive through the obstacle course. The carts were on loan to the MPD from the Middlesboro Country Club, and the cones were on loan from the Bell County Rescue Squad.
