A Middlesboro man has been charged with murdering his son.

Bell County Deputy Coroner Bill Bisceglia was called to the Middlesboro home of Sterling Raney Jr. Saturday evening. Bisceglia pronounced Danny a.k.a. "Creek Indian" Raney, age 38, dead at approximately 9 p.m. from an apparent gun shot wound to the chest. An autopsy has been performed, but the Bell County Coroner's office had not received the official report as of Sunday evening.

Sterling Raney Jr. was arrested for his son's murder, and has been lodged in the Bell County Jail. He was charged with murder of a family member with a gun, and for possession of handgun by a convicted felon.

The Middlesboro Police Department declined to give further information about the apparent shooting.
