One killed in accident on 25E

MELDRUM - An early afternoon accident in the north-bound lane of the U.S. 25E near Meldrum left one woman dead and a man and a woman critically injured.

According to the Kentucky State Police, Christine C. Holbrook, 62, of Cornettsville, was killed after the white 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche in which she was riding overturned near the junction of U.S. 25E and KY 188 at Meldrum.

According to the report, the driver of the Avalanche, Nola H. Ison, 51, of Slemp, entered a curve too fast and lost control of the vehicle which skidded across the outer lane, rolled over a guardrail and down an embankment approximately 30 feet. Holbrook, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle and landed approximately 25 feet away from the wreck.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by Bell County Coroner's Office.

Ison and another passenger in the vehicle, James E. Noble, 40, of Cornettsville, were also ejected from the vehicle. They were both air-lifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where they were listed in critical condition.

The accident is still under investigation by Kentucky State Police Trooper Brent Sizemore.
