Tazewell, TENN. (July 3, 2005) - Bryan Hendrix of Knoxville along with Steve Smith of Powell showed the fans of Tazewell Speedway what a "show stopper" is, as the duo "duked it out" throughout the 35 Lap Super Late Model feature in which ended as a "photo finish" with Hendrix barely edging Smith by two inches to capture his second win of 2005 at "The Taz."

Steve Smith set a blistering lap as he toured the high-banked 1/3 Mile Dirt Oval in 11.397 Seconds (105.18 MPH) during time trials with Bryan Hendrix taming "The Taz" in 11.448 Seconds (104.71 MPH) putting him on the outside of row one with Smith.

As Smith and Hendrix led the 14 car field to the green, Smith quickly blasted into turn one with Hendrix wasting no time diving to the inside of Smith trying to overtake the lead as the duo ran door to door down the backstretch with the first caution of the feature being waved before a lap could be completed as Michael Rutherford looped his No. 18 around coming out of turn four.

The restart saw Smith and Hendrix "back at it" with Gary Blanken quickly mounting a challenge for third place working the inside of Jeff Wolfenbarger as Jeff Treece looked to be on a rail as the 9th place qualifier had worked his way into the fifth running position by lap seven and was quickly reeling in fourth placeman Gary Blanken.

The battle for 6th heated up with Jack Trammel, Jason Trammell, Brett Miller and Brian Smith running three and four wide coming down the front stretch and into turns one and two as the four made contact on the backstretch bringing out the second caution of the event on lap 8 sending Miller, Trammell and Trammell into the pits for the night.

Jeff Treece wasted no time on the restart as he picked off Gary Blanken for fourth and quickly put his nose to the inside of Wolfenbarger challenging him for third as the duo got two-wide several times with Treece finally clearing Wolfenbarger on lap 12 and quickly tried putting a move on Hendrix for 2nd with race leader Steve Smith holding a several car length lead over the field as the third caution of the event waved on lap 14 for fluid on the race surface from the No. 05 Gary Blanken machine as Blanken retired to the pits for the night moving Jeff Walker into fifth place.

Going back green the top five were Steve Smith, Bryan Hendrix, Jeff Treece, Terry Wolfenbarger and Jeff Walker.

As the green waved on the restart, Treece quickly drove to the inside of Hendrix with the duo running two wide down the backstretch and into turn 3 Treece slowed and retired to the pits ending a great night with an overheating engine.

On lap 25, Steve Smith looked as if he was well on his way to his first victory of 2005 until lap 29 when the fourth caution of the event waved for debris laying in turn four from the No. 7 of Marty Calloway as he went to the pits with a "shredded tire" setting up a "four lap dash" to the finish.

The top five on the restart were Smith, Hendrix, Jeff Wolfenbarger, Terry Wolfenbarger and Brian Smith.

At the drop of the green Hendrix quickly dove under Smith trying to snatch the lead several times as the duo came out of turn four on the final lap, Steve Smith lost a little momentum and that's all it took as Smith and Hendrix came to the finish line with their cars almost "dead-even" with Hendrix holding a very slim lead over Smith by less than half of a nose piece as Hendrix went on to capture the biggest "thriller" of the season by far piloting the Armstrong Refrigeration/ Tennessee RV/ West Haven Speed Equipment/ Matlock Decal/ Hoosier No. 5 GRT over Steve Smith, Jeff Wolfenbarger, Terry Wolfenbarger and Jeff Walker.
