Middlesboro dropped the tournament opener to Hazard, but have rebounded with three straight wins to advance to within two wins of a spot in the state tournament.
Middlesboro returns to London for the fourth straight day today, taking on the winner of Thursday's late game between Pulaski and Hazard. Harlan and North London meet at 6 p.m. in a matchup of the tournament's last unbeaten teams.
Middlesboro used a four-run second inning to put away South London on Thursday while D.J. Daniels and Thomas Epperson combined on a four-hitter.
Middlesboro jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Epperson drew a walk and scored on Anthony Thacker's double.
The lead grew to 5-0 midway through the second inning.
Zack Riddle drew a leadoff walk and Daniels added a double one out later. Jarod Lasley drew a walk to load the bases and Epperson followed with a two-run single. Thacker followed with a single and Tyler Partin plated two runs with a double.
Middlesboro added its final run in the third when Chris Short doubled and scored on an Epperson ground out.
Daniels, who picked up the win on the mound, also led Middlesboro at the plate with a double and two singles. Thacker and Partin each added a double and a single while Lasley singled twice. Short added a double and Epperson had a single.
Middlesboro is scheduled to play at 8 p.m. today.
