"We suffered a great loss when Pat Welch-Bowling passed away, but we are committed to growing stronger. This new sign is just one way of letting people know that we are still here and still focused on helping to meet the many needs of the people in this area," said Leo Haggerty, executive director of Cumberland Trails United Way.
During the time that Welch-Bowling was involved with the Cumberland Trails United Way, funding for agencies grew from $35,000 to $110,000. Later, when joined by Leo Haggerty, the funding grew to $121,000.
The 2005 goal is $125,000. "Even as we continue to grow at a record rate, the needs of the area continue to out pace us. We will continue to redouble our efforts to meet these needs." Haggerty added.
"Pat was tireless in her efforts to help the community," said Baylor Fulton, president of the Cumberland Trails United Way Board of Directors and vice-president of operations for First State Financial.
"She will be greatly missed by all who worked with her at the United Way. Because of her example of caring for others, we will be a much stronger organization, and remain committed to growing so that we can help even more."
Larry Grandey, member of Cumberland Trails United Way Board of Directors and owner of World Wide Gap Internet Services, proudly says, "We help 25 agencies in six counties to meet the needs of their communities. We do appreciate those kind and caring individuals and companies that help to make this possible."
The Cumberland Trails United Way provides support for agencies in Bell, Harlan, Knox, and Whitley counties in Kentucky; Lee County in Virginia; and Claiborne County in Tennessee. The 2005 United Way Campaign kicks off the first week of August.
