Though the heat of summer is upon us, staff at Cumberland Gap National Historical Park will be preparing for a special event which will showcase the beauty and grandeur of the southern mountains. "Wild Mountain Mania"- A Celebration of Nature at Cumberland Gap will begin on October 7, as students from throughout the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia visit the park. Throughout the weekend visitors and students alike will be treated to numerous exhibits, displays, demonstrations, entertainment and special activities which will showcase the natural world.

"Events that we have sponsored in the past have been incredibly well received," says Park Ranger Scott Teodorski, "It's a lot of work but definitely worth it!" Approximately 18,000 visitors attended last year's event which focused on the rich history of the early frontier. The focus of this year's event will be on the natural resources that can be found in and around Cumberland Gap National Historical Park.

"These mountains are magic," says Teodorski, "Their beauty, intrigue, and sheer diversity have inspired generations. Now we want to celebrate that beauty with first class exhibits, demonstrations, and expert presenters as part of this magnificent event!"

Teodorski further explains that the park is seeking appropriate event exhibitors, speakers, and food vendors to participate. The displays, exhibits, and activities will all fit within a specific set of guidelines to ensure that they are appropriate and contribute to the integrity of the event.

All demonstrators and vendors will be asked to adhere to these guidelines. Food vendors will be asked to meet additional specific guidelines and undergo a health inspection process.

According to Park Ranger Janice Miracle, "We are interested in providing a quality experience for all who visit. We want this to be a positive experience that will last a lifetime."

Anyone interested in participating in the event as a demonstrator, presenter, or vendor should contact Cumberland Gap National Historical Park at (606)248-2817.
