After sanctioning six races at six different tracks over a ten day stretch the brand new "Southern Nationals" Late Model Series rolled into Tazewell Speedway for the seventh and final event of their grueling schedule, The "Southern Nationals Championship Night at Tazewell Speedway."

Anthony White of Clinton wheeled his black number 2 around the high banks of "The Taz" in 11.380 Seconds (105.34 MPH) placing him on the pole of the Fifty-Three lap feature as Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga. piloted the white number 101 around Tazewell Speedway in 11.398 Seconds (105.17 MPH) placing him on the outside berth of White.

Prior to the green flag waving, Anthony White took two laps in front of the stellar 21 car field in memory of his brother, the late Tracy White who passed away last week. Tazewell Speedway sends out our deepest sympathy to the White family.

At the drop of the green flag, White quickly rocketed into turn one with the first caution of the event being waved before a lap could be completed as Jason Trammell spun coming out of turn one with Terry Wolfenbarger also taking a loop coming out of turn four making hard contact with the inside retaining wall placing heavy damage to his ride and sending him to the infield for repairs before returning to the racing surface.

The top five on the restart were White, Smith, Roberts, Ogle, and Jay Brinkley.

White out-powered Roberts on the restart, blasting into turn one as third place Steve Smith wasted no time and started working the low groove, quickly maneuvering his way around Roberts. The second caution of the event waved on lap two as Tony Morris spun coming out of turn two sending several other cars for a loop collecting Kyle Sheer, Danny Mitchell and Chris Wilson retiring them to the infield for the evening.

The top five remained the same on the restart as Billy Ogle, Jr. started working the inside of Casey Roberts clearing him for third on lap three. The third caution of the event waved on lap seven as Jack Daughtry looped his black number 6 around coming out of turn four.

The top five on the restart were White, Smith, Ogle, Roberts, and Brinkley.

With White setting sail out front, Ogle and Smith kept the fans on their feet as they battled for second before Ogle finally cleared Smith on the ninth circuit.

After several attempts, Roberts worked his way around Smith on lap 18 as the leaders were working their way into lap traffic. Lap 20 saw the fourth caution of the event wave as Troy Eads spun coming out of turn three collecting Terrence Nowell, Jeff Wolfenbarger, Jack Daughtry, and Jeff Cooke sending Daughtry and Wolfenbarger to the pits for the evening as Nowell and Cooke went to the infield to repair their damaged rides and returned to racing action.

The top five on the restart were White, Ogle, Roberts, Smith, and Brinkley. Ogle quickly tried placing a move on White on the restart but as White had done the whole race, he quickly started gaining a comfortable lead over the field. By lap 26, the leaders had made their way back into lap traffic yet again, giving Ogle a chance to work his way back into White's rearview mirror as Roberts tried going to the inside of Ogle for second, but failed to clear him. Brian Smith cleared sixth place Eddie Carrier, Jr. on lap 31.

Holding over a seven car length lead over Ogle, Anthony White started showing signs of trouble on lap 32 with smoke rolling out of the rear of his car, White slowed on the backstretch on lap 34 before retiring to the pits with a broken rear end ending what was going to be a dominating night putting Ogle on the point. Current Southern Nationals point leader Jeff Cooke sat in seventh place on lap 35 after having to go to the rear of the field because of an accident on lap 20.

Roberts mounted several challenges for the lead on Ogle. between laps 34 and 38 as Brian Smith started working the inside of Brinkley on lap 39 with the duo running side by side for several laps as Smith finally cleared Brinkley for fourth on lap 42. Lap 44 saw Jeff Cooke driving to the outside of Eddie Carrier, Jr. for the sixth place running position with Cooke finally working his way around Carrier on lap 50.

Roberts tried several times to overtake the lead from Ogle, but failed in doing so as Ogle pocketed $5,000 capturing the "Southern Nationals Championship Night at Tazewell Speedway" driving the Vanover Concrete/ Dirt Works Plus, Inc./ Calhouns Restaurant/ number 201 Pontiac Grand Prix Warrior followed by Casey Roberts, Steve Smith, Brian Smith, and Jay Brinkley.

Jason Trammell captured the Limited Late Model pole by touring "The Taz" in 12.479 Seconds (96.06 MPH) and continued his dominating performance, rolling to his first Limited Late Model victory of the year driving the Fast Lane Signs/JRT Promotions/Edwards Plumbing Co./Flooring Source/ Sunelco/ Vic Hill Racing Engines No. 90 followed by a hard charging Keith Chapman, Steve Carr, James England, and Michael Hodges.

Michael Hodges made an impressive first showing in his first 2005 Modified Street Feature of 2005, by setting fast time during Modified Street time trials wheeling his brand new white No. 2 around Tazewell Speedway in 13.788 Seconds (86.94 MPH) placing him on the pole of the twenty lap feature as Allen Holt set second quick time, Johnny Lane third, Anthony Morgan fourth and Tony Trent fifth. At the drop of the green Hodges quickly blasted into the lead and never looked back en-route to capturing his first Modified Street victory of 2005 followed by Tony Trent, Leonard Bray, Brad Davis, and Rick Welch.

The Pure Street division starting line-up was determined by the current point standings thus placing Mike Bright on the pole for the 20 lap feature. At the drop of the green Mike Bright held onto the point and went on to take his second feature victory in a row with heavy damage to his car after a incident involving Phillip Nichols during a caution, disqualifying Nichols and Johnny Lay for disorderly conduct followed by Neil Lee (his best finish of 2005 as a Rookie) Larry Burke, Chase Jarnigan (Rookie), and "Hotrod" Jody Horton.

Next Saturday, Aug. 6th Tazewell Speedway will hold the annual "Powder Puff" giving the ladies a chance to tame the high banks of Tazewell Speedway. There will also be foot race for the kids as the first one to cross the finish line will receive a brand new bicycle as well as other prizes. The Super Late Model, Limited Late Model, Modified Street, Pure Street, and Four-Cylinder divisions will be running a regular points race. General Admission is $8 with nine year olds and under being admitted free. Pit Passes are $20.
