Jones returned to the U.S. in February following a 12-month tour of duty in Iraq, where he served as a convoy commander with the 744th Transportation Company A.The truck company traveled 800,000 miles and hauled 32,000 short tons of cargo, including dry and refrigerated goods, water, petroleum products, and general cargo, to troops throughout Iraq. For his service, Jones received the Army Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
Jones is a graduate of Armor Officer Basic Course at Ft. Knox, Ky., and Transportation Officer Advanced Course at Ft. Eustis, Va. He served as platoon leader of Detachment 1 of the 744th Transportation Company for six years. Prior to that, he served as a platoon leader with the 2/278th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Greenville, Tenn.
A 1993 graduate of Middlesboro High School, he holds a master's degree in counseling psychology. He currently works as a counseling readjustment therapist for the Veterans Administration in White River Junction, Vt., assisting veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) during their reintegration process after returning home.
Jones and his wife, Rachel, reside in Lebanon, N.H. He is the son of Charles and Beth Jones of Middlesboro.
