The team spent four days in July at the University of Tennessee Universal Dance Association Camp. There they learned more then seven routines and performed their own choreographed home routine at Thompson-Bowling Arena.
They received fifty-eight award ribbons, and brought home the coveted spirit stick award. The Pantherettes perform during home basketball games but will be making special appearances at home football games this season. They will also be performing during the Relay for Life on August 26 at Harrogate City Park.
Local businesses sponsoring them at summer camp were Apex Women's Services, Commercial Bank, Hardees, Shoneys, Godfathers Pizza, Welcome Home, Middlesboro Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Oney Heating and Air, Harrogate Hospital for Animals, Mike Robertson Law Office, and Holiday BP.
The Pantherettes team captains, Rachel Gilbert, Tiffany Poore, and Elizabeth Chumley, have been chosen to perform in the 79th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. They will be representing Claiborne County in this televised spectacular on November 24.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these young ladies. Not only will they be dancing in the parade, they will also have a taste of the Big Apple as they take in a Broadway show, attend the Rockette Christmas Performance at Radio City Music Hall, and have dance classes with a world famous Broadway choreographer.
They are currently raising money to fund their trip. The cost per girl is $1500 plus travel expenses. Any donations, personal and business, are needed and appreciated. Checks may be made out to CGHS Pantherettes and are tax deductible. For more information on how you or your business can sponsor these girls or this team contact Coach Cindi Robertson at 869-0851 or email her at cghspantherettes@hotmail.com.
