According to court documents, Adrien Phillip Douglas, 28, pleaded guilty to third-degree escape, violation of a domestic order, first-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, third-degree assault, disarming a police officer, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and second-degree being a persistent felony offender.
The court indictment indicated that on Feb. 5, 2003, Douglas apparently violated a domestic violence order against Brandy M. Smith.
When police arrived to arrest him, a struggle ensued and he was charged with escaping from the custody of Middlesboro Police Officer Robbie Parks.
In his pursuit Douglas failed to stop his vehicle on orders from Park and "created a substantial risk of serious physical injury or death."
He was also charged with third-degree assault when he attempted to cause physical injury to Middlesboro Police Officer Harold Womack.
At some point during the struggle, he also disarmed Middlesboro Police Officer David Buis by removing Buis' weapon from its holster while Buis was attempting to place him under arrest.
Douglas was eventually detained without further incident.
He was originally sentenced to six years and 90 days in jail, but under terms of the plea-agreement he will serve only five.
William R. Hensley, 45, of Pineville, was also sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree trafficking (Cocaine), possession of drug paraphernalia, public intoxication. Hensley was also charged with being a persistent felony offender, but that charge was later dropped.
