The event pays tribute to Stanley, who was awarded the honorary doctorate by the institution in 1976, and all the proceeds from the show go to support the Dr. Ralph Stanley Endowed Scholarship in Music at LMU.
"Four years ago we wanted to show our appreciation for his long-time ambassadorship for the University, and we thought the best way to do that would be to establish a scholarship bearing his name so that his legacy would continue to be a part of LMU for generations to come," President Nancy Moody said.
The concert is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, at the Tex Turner Arena on the LMU campus. The evening of entertainment will feature the multi-award winning Del McCoury Band, as well as Dr. Ralph Stanley and the famous Clinch Mountain Boys. Also performing will be up and coming area bands Cumberland Gap Connection and One Way Track.
Event organizer Larry Carter said, "This promises to be a great evening of bluegrass, and we are pleased to have Dr. Ralph and the Del McCoury Band back on campus. The two local bands who are helping to fill out the ticket are excellent groups, and we're sure this show will be a real treat for the fans. It's for a great cause, and we appreciate all the folks who have been so supportive of this event through the years."
Tickets for the concert are on sale now at the arena box office on the campus of LMU and on-line at www.lmutickets.com. The box office number is 423-869-6355. Tickets for reserved seating are $25 each.
