MIDDLESBORO - With cooler temperatures on the way and the feeling of fall in the air, many residents are starting to do a little fall cleaning and this week would be the perfect time to take advantage of some extra help.

The Middlesboro street department is asking anyone who has extra garbage that they would like to get rid of to bring it to the department headquarters on North 15th Street as part of clean-up week.

The city of Middlesboro has been discussing clean-up efforts a lot lately in city council meetings and street department manager Leeman Moyers says this is a good time of year to take advantage of the help.

Moyers said residents are encouraged not to set these items outside of the road but to bring them to the department. He said any handicapped or elderly residents who don't have a way of getting their extra trash to the department could call and arraignments would be made to have it taken care of.

Moyers said he does want people to remember that items such as shingles, tires and metal can not be taken in by the department but they could advise people on how to dispose of these materials it if they call. Metal has to be taken to the county and that can be taken care of by calling 606-337-7035. There is no fee for the metal pick-up.

”This is an every day thing for us,“ said Moyers. ”We are just trying to provide some people with a little more help and if anyone wants any information and details, they can call us.“

Moyers said leaves, tree branches and debris also had special pick-up and for more information, please call the street department at 606-248-4601.
