The Claiborne County Historical and Genealogical Society
Joyce Ramsey, President
This volume represents two years of research and compilation by the Society's Book Committee and with county-wide participation. The new People's Heritage of Claiborne County, Tennessee Vol. 2, 1801-2005 is over twice the size of the first volume with 460 pages, an every name index, 985 photographs, 16 sketches by 6 local and regional artists, 263 family histories, and 217 military entries recognizing the men and women of our county who have defended our country from the Revolutionary War to the present. There are also 40 topical stories related to just the history of our county alone, all conveniently available for the first time in a single volume.
The book is printed on acid free paper to a 100 years of permanence and bound in a large, coffee-table size format in a red cover with gold lettering matching The People's History of Claiborne County, Tennessee Vol. 1, 1801-1988, which after 17 years and multiple printings, is still popular and still available for purchase. In addition, the Society also has available A Claiborne County Pictorial History 1801-2001.
The new book of the Historical Society is now available to the general public at all county branches of First Century Bank, Citizens Bank, Commercial Bank and Home Federal Bank. The book will be available at Wal-Mart in the near future, the date and time will be announced accordingly. You may also contact Joyce Ramsey, President of the Historical Society for a copy at 626-0500. The cost of the book is $75 if picked up or delivered locally and $79.95 if mailed.
The Claiborne County Historical Society would like to thank all the banking institutions of the County for their generosity and hospitality in making this book available at their locations. The Society is equally grateful to Wal-Mart for providing a day when the book can be available at their store and to The Claiborne Progress and its staff for the many years of continued encouragement and accommodation to the work of the Historical Society. We are grateful to all of you and the general public who has supported our work.

Cherel Bolin Henderson, Director of The East Tennessee Historical Society made the follow observation in her review of the book: "From old photographs and family, school, and church histories to a list of Claiborne County Postmasters, The People's History of Claiborne County, Tennessee, 1801-2005, Volume 2, is packed with information. Especially notable are the transcriptions of original documents, such as legislative petitions, and a 200 year timeline. This book will set a standard for future county heritage volumes."
Henderson is also founder of two highly successful on going programs promoted by The East Tennessee Historical Society, The First Families of Tennessee and Civil War Families of Tennessee. Both of these programs are open to the participation of the general public.
