JONESVILLE, Va. - A high speed chase in northwestern Lee County, Va., led to the confiscation of a meth lab in Rose Hill.

According to Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons, a Middlesboro man, Richard Allen Idol, 43, fled from police near the Lee-Wise county line on Saturday.

The pursuit turned south and ended near Dryden around 1:30 p.m. when the car went over an embankment.

Parsons said Idol then got out of his car and allegedly pointed a weapon at officers, who were able to talk him into surrendering.

In later interviews, Parons said Idol allegedly confessed to having a meth lab in a home he was renting in Rose Hill.

Around 10 p.m. that night, Parsons said agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Virginia State Police and the Lee County Sheriffs Department assembled on the home and confiscated the lab and meth-making materials.

Idol is charged with felony counts of attempting to manufacture meth, possession of a fire arm and resisting arrest.
