Eight sentenced on drug charges

PINEVILLE - A Middlesboro man has been sentenced in Bell County circuit court to 10 years in prison on trafficking charges.

David Ancil Proffitt Sr., 55, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to first degree trafficking in a controlled substance (morphine), first offense and second degree trafficking in a controlled substance (hydrocodone), first offense.

Seven other individuals were sentenced on trafficking and drug charges. They include:

Robert Lee Hash Sr., 70, of Middlesboro, was sentenced to serve seven years in prison after he pleaded guilty to three counts of trafficking in a controlled substance (alprazolam), in or near a school (West End Primary), and second degree trafficking in a controlled substance (hydocodone), first offense.

Brandi Djuan Hubick, 22, of Middlesboro, was sentenced to serve six years in prison after he pleaded guilty to four counts of first degree trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine), first offense.

Matt Thomas Crank, 62, of Middlesboro, was sentenced to serve five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the charges of trafficking in a controlled substance (alprazolam) in or near a school.

Crank delivered the Schedule IV substance to a Middlesboro Police Department confidential informant with 1,000 yards of Middlesboro High School. He also pleaded guilty to second degree persistent felony offender. His sentence on persistent felony charge is an enhancement to a sentence already in effect from another case.

William James Ayers, 48, of Hulen, was sentenced to serve five years in prison after a jury found him guilty of first degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense.

Ayers appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to the charge and his case went to trial. A jury returned the guilty verdict. He will receive 39 days credit for time served in jail on the charge.

Homer Wayne Hubick, 44, of Middlesboro, was sentenced to serve five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to first degree trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine), first offense.

Earl Wilburn Daniels, 55, of Speedwell, Tenn., was sentenced to serve five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to three counts of second degree trafficking in a controlled substance (hydrocodone), first offense, and one count of third degree trafficking on a controlled substance (alprazolam), first offense.

Jackie Lee Smith, 23, of Middlesboro, pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, first offense, and first degree promotion of a contraband and was sentenced to serve three years in prison.

Brenda Jo Perkins, 23, of Middlesboro, was sentenced to serve two years in prison, including 12 months in the Bell County jail, after she pleaded guilty to second degree trafficking in a controlled substance (hydrocodone), first offense, and two counts of third degree trafficking in a controlled substance (alprazolam, diazepam), first offense.
