Following two and a half innings of scoreless baseball, Lincoln Memorial found their way on the board with a scoring outburst. The scoring was started off by Cody Baker's double which drove in Eric Kitts, who led off the inning with a single.
With Joe Horsley on third, Juan Alvarez picked up the sacrifice fly with a high-soaring pop up to right field. Following quickly in suit, Cody Pack knocked in Cody Baker with a double down the left-field line.
To finish off the big inning, Deaun Williams was able to drive in John Couch with a sacrifice fly of his own. With that inning, the Railsplitters took a 4-0 lead.
Through five innings, Railsplitter pitcher Brandon Cowan was cruising, as he kept the Norse off the board. Northern Kentucky was, however, able to put a run across the plate in the sixth, as Bryan Rose hit a home run. This cut the LMU lead to 4-1.
This would remain the score until the top of the ninth. In that inning, the seams began to unravel for the Railsplitters, as three errors in the inning brought three runs across the plate. With a scoreless inning by Lincoln Memorial in the bottom half of the ninth, the game went into extra innings.
With solid pitching and defense from each team, the game moved into the 13th inning. In the top half of the 13th, a single by Brad Clement gave the Norse a 5-4 lead. In the Railsplitter half of the 13th, LMU came up empty-handed, failing to mount any sort of rally. With the conclusion of that inning, the Railsplitters fell, 5-4.
Brandon Cowan provided a strong outing for LMU as he pitched seven innings and allowed one lone run. Cody Baker was a pesky out for the Norse as he went 3-6 on the day.
The Railsplitters will look to rebound from this loss on March 18th, as they travel to Greeneville, Tennessee to take on conference-rival Tusculum College. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
