Leadership Claiborne's February meeting, which focused on education started at Cumberland Gap High School with breakfast and a tour. While at the high school the group heard presentations from Director of Schools Donald Dobbs and Sam McCollough who presented on the P16 Project.
The group also heard a presentation about H.Y. Livesay Middle School, Claiborne County's only core knowledge certified school. H.Y. Livesy has also been recognized as one of the top two middle schools in the state.
At LMU, the group was welcomed by Dr. Michael Clyburn, vice president for academic affairs before touring Mitchell Hall, one of the University's three new apartment-like, residential facilities. After the tour, Dr. Ray Stowers, vice president and dean of the proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM), gave a presentation on the University's pursuit of accreditation for the COM.
Stowers' presentation was followed by a program by Debbie Thomas from the Clinch Powell Head Start. Dion Mountain gave the final presentation of the day about the Heritage Baptist Academy.
