Harrogate man arrested on assault charges

A Harrogate man was arrested on Thursday and charged with assault.

According to Bell County Jail records, James W. Mize, 32, was arrested by Bell County Sheriff's deputies and charged with second-degree assault (strong-arm).

According to the Kentucky Revised Statutes, a person is charged with second-degree assault when they are suspected of intentionally cause serious physical injury to another person by means of a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument.

Second-degree assault is a Class C felony.

Other recent arrests include:

Roy Baker Jr., 31, of Middlesboro, was arrested by Middlesboro City Police officers and charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, second-degree burglary, resisting arrest, resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle and third-degree criminal mischief.

Sharon R. Jones, 28, Fourmile, was arrested by Middlesboro City Police officers and charged with theft by unlawful taking (shoplifting). She posted bond and was released.

Mary J. Swafford, 19, of Barbourville, was arrested by Bell County Sheriff's deputies on an outstanding warrant.

Garath Caldwell, 17, of Stoney Fork, was arrested by Bell County Sheriff's deputies and charged with driving under the influence and possession of marijuana.

Crystal Blackburn, 32, of Middlesboro, was arrested by Middlesboro City Police officers and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol (second offense in five years), driving on a DUI-suspended license (first offense) no insurance and not wearing a seatbelt.

Charles Bussell, 25, of Middlesboro, was arrested by Middlesboro City Police officers and charged with public intoxication.
