On Tuesday, June 6th, the New Tazewell Planning Commission convened with the tabling of the first item on agenda due to no representation from Giles regarding plan development of site on Broad Street.
The next item on agenda consumed most of the meeting - a review of a proposed checklist. This list details specific requirements for subdivision site plans and preliminary plats. Conditions on the proposed checklist would need to be completed before work could commence at sites. The checklist with completed details would have a maximum of 10 calendar days in which to be completed and list returned to proper personnel. Handouts of the proposed checklist will be reviewed by commission members and possibly finalized and put in effect at next meeting.
An inquiry as to who would enforce proposed checklist requirements was not discussed.
A suggestion was made that members begin to formulate a plan for initial projects and areas of concern to be considered for the upcoming planning year.
A proposal was made for updating utility and flood maps. Joe Barnett, a representative from Local Planning Assistance Office explained that base mapping with digital GIS should be completed in the next one to two years for Claiborne County. This digital mapping system would include utility, flood, and zoning mapping updates.
A recommendation was also made that members become proactive. Focus should be on training and education regarding regulations for developments and road plans due to the projected growth in the area in the near future.
The July meeting of the New Tazewell Planning commission will be cancelled due to the Fourth of July holiday.
