MIDDLESBORO - The Middlesboro City Council will review the second ordinance relating to the rules and regulations pertaining to dogs within the city at Tuesday's council meeting.

The ordinance was wrote by local dog owners and does not ban any specific breed of dog from being inside of the city limits. The city will recognize the right of the people to own any breed of dog in a responsible manner.

The ordinance does ban any dog from being in any city park, public, or community event. Along with banning dogs from public events, the ordinance suggests that all dogs be securely leashed on a lead no longer than eight feet in length and controlled in the presence of an adult when not on the owner's property. The ordinance states that no children under the age of 14 shall be allowed to lead a dog in public areas without the direct supervision of an adult. This rule would not include junior showmanship or other sanctioned dog show competition. Any parent whose unattended child under the age of 14 is found in public with a dog on, or off a leash may be charged with reckless endangerment.

Several other rules and regulations are stated within the ordinance. The council will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Middlesboro City Hall to examine the ordinance.
