EAST PINEVILLE — It was a wild night of softball for the Bell County Lady Cats and the Lady Generals of Lee High Thursday. Bell County swept the double-header with a 4-3 nine-inning win in game one and a 10-9 victory in ten innings in the nightcap.

Rachel Yeary pitched all nine innings to get the win in the first game and brought home Kristen Slusher with the winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth.

None of the runs Yeary allowed were earned as she scattered 10 hits while waking two and striking out five.

Haley Gent had a two-run double and Christen Good an RBI single to tie the game at three in the bottom of the fifth and Yeary and Lee’s Sam Ely kept it that way until the tenth.

Lee took advantage of three Lady Cat errors to open up a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Brittany Boyette’s double to left was the big hit. Courtney Tabor came around to score on an error in the outfield on the play and two more Lady Cat error let in two more runs.

Alisha Russell and Slusher singled with one out in the fifth for Bell and they both scored on Gent’s double. Good’s base hit score courtesy runner Alex Gambrel to tie the game and chase Lee starter Sydney Owens.

Ely came on and gave up just an unearned run in the ninth on five hits over 4-1/3 innings.

Slusher singled to open the Bell ninth. One out later Good reached on an error and Jamie Collins singled to load the bases before Yeary’s sac fly won the game.

Russell led Bell with four hits in the game while Slusher had three. Good and Collins both had two singles while Gent doubled and Haley Goodman and Shasta Centers added hits for the Lady Cats.

Boyette singled and doubled to lead the Lady Generals in game one. Taylor Rasnic also had two hits while Courtney Parsons, Allie Eldridge, Courtney Tabor, Miller and Scott added hits.

Game two had a little bit of everything. Slusher went 5-for-5 with a walk, a home run and three doubles as she scored four runs and drove in two for the Lady Cats. Good went 5-for-6 with a double and 3 RBI and knocked in Russell with the game-winner on a single in the bottom of the tenth.

Gent and Russell had three hits each in the late game while Collins doubled, and Yeary, Goodman and Kendra Taylor added singles.

Bell led 7-3 after six innings, but Lee rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game.

Ely, who went 5-for-6 with two doubles and four RBI, doubled in one run in the seventh and Scott cleared the bases with a three-run double of her own to tie it.

Rasnic had two singles and scored three runs for Lee, Parson also had two hits while Boyette, Miller and Owens also had hits. Scott also tripled for the Lady Generals.

Lee took an 8-7 lead in the top of the eighth as Ely singled home Rasnic.

Bell tied it again in the bottom of the frame as Slusher doubled and then scored on Good’s base hit.

It was 8-8 after nine so the teams went to the international tie-breaker and opened the tenth with a runner on second.

For Lee it was Rasnic and she would score on a two-out hit from Ely to put the Lady Generals up 9-8.

Bell opened their half of the tenth with Hillary Lowe on second. Russell bunted for a hit and Slusher walked to load the bases. Gent singled in one run to tie it and Good’s grounder won the game as Russell beat the throw home.

Bell (8-3) heads to Tate’s Creek for the Lady Commodore Classic. They’ll play Boyd County tonight with games against Nicholas County, Magoffin County and host Tate’s Creek set for Saturday. The Lady Cats return home Monday to take on Harlan County in a district game.
