The inaugural Sounds of Summer Concert is scheduled to take place at the park from noon until 9 p.m., and admission is free.
Nine bands are scheduled to perform during this community event, with music ranging from bluegrass and contemporary to southern rock and Christian rock.
“We will have a wide spectrum of music available for everyone,” said Lieven Cox, one of the event's organizers. “We had a good response from the bands, and they are performing for free for this.”
All of the performers have local ties, he added.
“We want to support our local bands,” he said. “We really appreciate them doing this, taking their time for this.”
Food concessions and drinks will be available in the park, as well as craft booths. According to Cox, over 20 vendors will be set up; all are non-profit organizations from the tri-state area.
Door prizes will be given away throughout the day as well.
“We have some nice door prizes to give away - a washer and dryer, silver coins, a refrigerator, a flat-screen t.v., and more,” he said.
Concert organizers are promoting a family atmosphere for the concert - no alcoholic beverages will be permitted, and security will be provided. The Harrogate Fire Department will be directing traffic and providing security.
Golf carts will be available for transporting those with limited physical ability from the parking area.
Event organizers hope this first year is a success so the concert will become an annual event.
“Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the day,” said Cox. “We hope for a great turnout, and we're looking forward to a good day.”
The event is being co-sponsored by Lincoln Memorial University and Clayton Mobile Homes in Middlesboro. For more information, contact Rose Kiser at Harrogate City Hall at (423) 869-0211.
