The Middlesboro Rotary Club will soon present “Lunch With the Candidates” at J. Milton's Steak & Buffet in Middlesboro. This is a unique opportunity for the public to have lunch with, and listen to, candidates vying for the offices of State Legislature, Middlesboro Mayor, Bell County Sheriff, and Bell County Judge Executive. Four consecutive Monday's, beginning with October 9, have been scheduled for this event. NewWave Communications is partnering with Rotary and will air the events on Middlesboro Cable.

All candidates running for the aforementioned offices have been invited to participate. The schedule for the particular offices is as follows: October 9 - State Legislature; October 16 - Middlesboro Mayor; October 23 - Bell County Sheriff; October 30 - Bell County Judge Executive. Each day the event will begin at 12 p.m. and with an informal opportunity to meet the candidates. Then, at 12:30 p.m., the Question & Answer period will begin. These sessions will be broadcast on NewWave Communication's cable Channel 13 on Tuesday's from 7:30-8 p.m.

Due to the limited time of the Question & Answer period, no questions will be posed to the candidates from the general public, but questions may be suggested prior to the event. Moderators Leo Haggerty or Ken Simpson, who are past presidents of Middlesboro Rotary, will ask questions.

Haggerty stated, “We wanted to keep the questions fair to all the candidates and give them a chance to give their views to the issues pertinent to the general public.” The format will be such that after a candidate answers a particular question, the opponent will give a brief response.

“We encourage the public to come to these lunches and meet the candidates personally. This is a great opportunity to listen to them in a very fair, neutral setting,” said Ken Simpson, “Join us for lunch and stay for the dialogue between the candidates. I'm sure that you will be glad that you did.”

If you would like more information about the “Lunch With the Candidates” please contact Leo Haggerty at (606) 248-3069 or any Rotary member.
