Cumberland Gap National Historical Park has marked the historical legacy of Lewis and Clark. A new historical highway marker was unveiled recently, declaring Cumberland Gap as a passageway through which the famous duo traveled. The sign, located just after Kentucky Fried Chicken going southbound towards Harrogate, says: "Meriwether Lewis, coleader of the Lewis & Clark Expedition, with a party of Expedition veterans and a Mandan Indian delegation, went through the Cumberland Gap in November 1806 en route to Washington to report on the expedition." Park staff, the Lewis & Clark reenactment team, members of the Bell County Historical Society, and visitors are pictured.
