CMT's newest half-hour special, Karaoke Dokey features four contestants who compete in a battle to see who does the best impersonation of a country music star.
Mickey and three other contestants will be impersonating country diva Shania Twain. These aspiring Shanias belt it out in front of a live audience and panel of judges including comedienne Etta May (CMT's Comedy Stage), Danielle Peck (Big Machine recording artist) and Hazel Smith (Southern Fried Flicks). In the end, only one (guess who won - yes our own Brandy Mickey) wins the title of Karaoke-Dokey queen.
Mickey says she was one of over 100 young women who auditioned for one of the four slots on the show on Jan. 6 in Nashville. She was called back to compete for the title of “Queen” of Karaoke Dokey on Feb. 9.
Hosted by Lance Smith (Top Twenty Countdown) and Charla (CMT Loaded),Karaoke-Dokey with Shaina Twain will also be broadcast Saturday, March 17, at 6 p.m.; Monday, March 18 at 12:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.; Tuesday, March 19 at 12:30 a.m.; and Wednesday, March 20, at 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Mickey, daughter of Dr. Douglas and Shelly Mickey of Calvins, is a 2003 graduate of Bell County High School, and is currently a student at Eastern Kentucky University, where she majoring in elementary education. She is also the granddaughter of Dr. Coy and Jo Mickey, Harold and Inge Grueschow, and Bert and ZoAnne Lading
As a student at Bell High she was active with the school choir, directed by Thomas Risner, for four years. Her achievements as a choral student at BCHS incldue: being named to the All-Festival Choir and the All-State Choir (she was only one that year to make it from Bell High), and participated in the Bluegrass Festival Choir.
At EKU, she has been a member of Concert Choir from 2004-2006, the University Choir from 2005-2006, and was a member of the Madrigal Singers in 2005
Mickey has been performing at various karaoke venues for several years. She earned first place at the 2002 Cumberland Mountain Fall Festival; first place at the 2002 and 2003 Mountain Laurel Festival 2002 and 2003; first place at the 2004 County Fair Coke Cola Karaoke Contest; and second place in the preliminaries at the Kentucky State Fair Coke Cola Talent Contest 2004.
