He was born at Chevrolet, Harlan County, Ky., and retired as a maintenance foreman from Bethlehem Steel Mines at Jenkins, Ky. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 318th Air Service Squadron of the Army Air Force and saw duty in North Africa and Italy.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pineville and over the years, he served as Sunday School Teacher of the Junior and Senior Boys.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arrettia Adkins Horton and Carl Adkins Sr; brothers, Herman and Carl Adkins Jr; step-father, Henry Horton; step-brothers, Glenn and Bud Horton; step-sisters, Mary Dugger, Merle Moore and Evelyn Moore.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris Lasley Adkins; son, Michael and his wife, Judy; and grandsons, Todd and Brian Adkins; and half-brother, Eulis Adkins.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Walzer presiding.
Burial will be in the Pineville Memorial Cemetery, Pineville. Pallbearers will be Brian Adkins, Todd Adkins, Henry Welch, Tim Lasley, Robert Caruso and Darrell Brock. Honorary pallbearer will be George Brock.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice.
