Recent reports from the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training reveal that Bell County has an astounding 9.1 percent unemployment rate for the past year, the 10th highest in the state. While unemployment rates declined in 81 Kentucky counties between June 2006 and June 2007, rates rose in 31 others, Bell County being one of them.
The Middlesboro Mall and Bell-Whitley Community Action Agency, Inc. are teaming up to assist the statistics, to find employment for the 9.1 percent which represent Bell county’s unemployed community. A job fair is set for Wednesday at the Middlesboro Mall. From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., participants in the job fair can meet with potential employers and even get advice from local college representatives from Lincoln Memorial University and Southeast Community and Technical College on furthering their education.
Many employers have already expressed an intent to search for employees at the job fair. Some of those employers include: Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Healthcare, Pineville Community Hospital, The Job Shop, Data Trac, Vangent, Middlesboro Healthcare Facility, First State Financial, Generations, Combined Insurance, National City Bank, Barbourville Nursing Home, Claire’s Boutique, Hibbett Sports, Legend Motorsports, Giles, Tri-State Health and Rehabilitation.
