On Tuesday Middlesboro’s boys golf team traveled to Corbin to play against the Redhounds and the South Laurel Cardinals.
The Cardinals dominated both the Jackets and Redhounds with team score of 143. Corbin shot a 159 and Middlesboro a 163.
“This was our best 9 hole score of the season and we get clobbered by 20 strokes. South shoots 3 over par for the team. That is quite impressive,” said Middlesboro Coach Jerry Shoffner. “But we played good, our scores continue to fall. Hopefully, we’ll be there in the end.”
Kipper House led the Jackets in scoring with a 1 over par 36, followed by Scott Mason-40, Thomas Epperson-43 and Philip Gordon’s 44.
On Thursday the Jackets traveled to Harlan Country Club for a quad match with Harlan, Cawood and Cumberland High Schools.
Middlesboro claimed the victory in the match with a team score of 154. Cawood took second place with a 177 followed by Harlan’s 182 and Cumberland’s 210.
Kipper House claimed his first medalist honors, with a even par round of 34. Philip Gordon’s 38, Brandon Bisceglia’s 39 and Thomas Epperson’s 43 helped Middlesboro give Middlesboro their lowest round of the season.
“Encouraging,” said Shoffner. “It’s the first time we’ve had three players in the 30’s.”
The Jackets’ next match will be Tuesday at South Laurel.
