Jackets blank Knox Central 14-0

The Middlesboro Yellow Jackets pitched a shutout Friday evening as they beat Knox Central 14-0 in the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic.

Knox Central broke a 48 yard run on the their second play fron scrimmage, but Hunter Adams stripped the ball and receovered it for Middlesboro. It was the first of several big plays by the Jacket junior.

It was also the last big play the Panthers would have as they had were held to just 89 yards the rest of the game.

Adams ran for a 50-yard touchdown to break a scoreless tie late in the first half and Patrick Knuckles extra point put the Jackets on top 7-0 at the break.

Middlesboro dominated the time of possession from the second quarter on and Knox Central never threatened to score in the game.

Adams made another big run to convert a 4th and long early in the fourth quarter and senior running back Shawn Russell ran in from 13 yards out on the next play to put the Jackets up 14-0.

Adams ran for 153 yards on 13 carries to lead Middlesboro and also completed 5-of-11 passes for 67 more yards and two big first downs.

Russell gained 44 tough yards on 16 carries while Breenan Bowling added 28 and Xavier Rogers 24.

It was a three yards and a clod of dust day for the Middlesboro backs with Adams providing he big plays on the outside.

The Jackets ran the ball 53 tims for a total of 258 yards, while holding Knox Central to just 85 yards on 22 carries.

The showing was all the more impressive after teh Pnathers ran all over Leslie County in a 46-0 win last week.

Senior Daniel Crawford led the Middlesboro defense with 11 tackles and A.J. Jones added seven.

Middlesboro (2-0) is at Lee County, Va. next week, while Knox Central (1-1) travels to Bell County.
