E. Kentucky Power to pay $11.4 million penalty in clean air case

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — The Environmental Protection Agency says East Kentucky Power Cooperative is agreeing to pay a fine of more than $11 million to settle alleged violations of the Clean Air Act.

Federal environmental regulators are asking a court to approve the fine.

The agency claims two of East Kentucky generating units at the company’s William C. Dale coal-fired power plant in Clark County, near Lexington, did not comply with the federal acid rain program.

The company said in a statement that it agreed to the settlement, but says it did comply with the Clean Air Act.
