On Friday, Sept. 28, Sheriff David Ray announced that an arrest had been made in a case involving an aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.
According to Ray, on Saturday Sept. 22, Anthony Caner was found in a remote area of Claiborne County known as Lonesome Valley. Caner had been severely beaten and had been left in a river area parking lot at Lonesome Valley. Ray and Capt. David Honeycutt arrived at the scene after being notified by 911 that an unnamed citizen had found Caner lying in the parking lot with head trauma. Caner was flown out by Lifestar to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
As Ray and Honeycutt began their Investigation thru witnesses and forensic evidence, their investigation led them to a residence on Southern Hollow Road in Hancock County late the night of Sept. 25 where, with the assistance of the Hancock County Sheriffs Office, they were able to take Dustin Duane Rouse, 21, into custody for the robbery and beating of Caner.
Also seized was a white Dodge truck that is thought to be the vehicle used to transport the victim to Lonesome Valley. TBI mobile crime lab processed the bed of the truck, which appeared to have blood droplets in it. In addition to Rouse, Ray and Honeycutt are looking for an unnamed juvenile. According to Ray, robbing the victim of money and medication was the motive for the crime. The victim had just met the suspects that day while trying to get a ride to Middlesboro, Ky. to visit family.
Bond has been set at $100,000 for Rouse.
