Adam Nelson completed 9-of-10 passes for 254 yards and five touchdowns as the Cumberland Gap Panthers improved to 9-0 with a 54-20 win over North Greene Friday night.

The Panthers jumped on top early as Brad Beason ran for a 54-yard TD and Matt Combs’ extra point made it 7-0.

On their next possession Combs caught a 16-yard pass from Nelson for a 14-0 lead.

North Greene’s Cody Miller returned the kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown to make it an eight point game.

Beason answered by taking the ensuing kickoff back 78 for a score. Combs’ kick made it 21-6 and the rout was on.

Nelson added TD passes of 56 yards to Whitt Willis, 25 yards to Jacob Shipley and 52 yards to Josh Barnett before halftime as the Panthers took a 41-6 lead into the break.

He passed to Beason for another 45-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

Backup Ryan Shipley hooked up with Adam Smith for a 38 yard touchdown pass to extend the Cumberland Gap lead to 54-6.

North Greene’s Josh Johnson’s ran for a 16-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion and Ryan Hopson caught a 15-yard TD pass from Thurman Jones to complete the scoring.

The Region 1-AA title will be on the line next week when Cumberland Gap (8-0, 4-0 Region) visits Gatlinburg-Pittman (7-1, 4-0).
