CUMBERLAND GAP - The Panthers went 96 yards on two plays on their opening possession Friday night, Nov. 2, and never looked back as they routed West Greene 49-14.

Senior quarterback Adam Nelson completed 14 of 22 passes for 332 yards and five touchdowns.

Senior running back Jacob Shipley ran for 106 yards on 10 carries and had 134 receiving yards on four catches. He also scored three touchdowns and added a two-point conversion after a bad snap on an extra point try.

Whitt Willis took a short pass 32 yards for a touchdown and Cumberland Gap quickly had a 7-0 lead after Matt Combs' kick.

Nelson hooked up with senior Ryan Warren on a 30-yard TD pass later in the first quarter to make it 14-0.

West Greene got on the board as Adrian Kaufman ran in from three yards out early in the second, but the Panthers answered.

Shipley caught a 31-yard touchdown pass, ran 23 yards for another score as Cumberland Gap took a 27-7 lead into halftime.

Warren and Shipley both caught touchdown passes in the third quarter as the Panther lead grew to 41-7.

In the fourth quarter, backup quarterback Ryan Shipley passed to Byron Johnson for a 20-yard TD and Jacob Shipley's conversion made it 49-7.

Kaufman's 8-yard TD run completed the scoring.

The Panthers (9-1) open the first round of the post-season on Friday, Nov. 9, playing host to Happy Valley (4-6).

On Oct. 5 of this year, the Panthers traveled to Happy Valley and won by a final score of 44-14. It was a game that featured Nelson torching the Valley boys for 389 yards through the air with four TD passes and Brad Beason pounded out 119 yards on the ground in the win.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday evening.

Should the Panthers win, their second round opponent would be the winner of the Gatlinburg-Pittman (9-1)/Rockwood (6-4) game on Friday, Nov. 16.
