TAZEWELL, Tenn. — Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department officials busted up a huge meth lab Friday morning, following an anonymous tip called in.

Around 5 a.m. Friday a call came into the department that someone was cooking meth on Owens Lane, in Claiborne County near the Campbell County line.

Sgt. Robert Chadwell and two other officers traveled to the address given to him on Owens Lane. Once there the deputies got out of their cars and looked through a window and observed people cooking meth in the kitchen.

According to Sheriff David Ray, the officers went to the front door and knocked, then asked if they could search the residence. The deputies found about seven to eight ounces of meth that had recently been cooked. A further search of the residence turned up Oxycodone and marijuana along with other drugs and several hundred dollars in cash.

The group was manufacturing red phosphorous, which is commonly called ‘Big P.’

Four people were arrested, including Sharon Owens, 48, of Owens Lane; Charlisa Monday, 35, of LaFollette; Stephen Pebley, 57, of Owens Lane, who is a high school teacher at Campbell County High School; and Jody Phillips, 26, of LaFollette, who was cooking the meth.

The Meth Task Force was called to assist in cleaning up the home. The prisoners and Meth Task Force officers were required to wear decontamination suits.

Officers have charged all four with manufacturing and has charged Owens with possession of methadone and two other charges.

“This is the biggest lab destroyed in Tennessee this year,” Task Force officers told Sheriff Ray.

The Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation and more charges are expected.
