The Pineville Mountain Lions looked strong Monday night, out-scoring Harlan 61-38 in an SEKC Pan-o-rama at Knox Central.
The Lions had a big advantage inside with 6-6 senior center Dustin Day and they exploited it.
Day scored 14 of his scrimmage-high 29 points in the first quarter as Pineville took the opening period 18-12.
Senior guard Dustin Warren hit a pair of 3-pointers in period two and Jon Widner addd four points off the bench as the Lions took quarter number two 13-9.
Day was at it again in to start the second half. He poured in 11 more points, Warren hit another three and Jared Jeffrey added a basket as Pineville doubled up the Dragons 16-8.
Junior point guard James David Strange scored his only three points of the night in the fourth quarter. Day had four, Warren hit a three and Jeffrey and Will Lambdin added a basket each as the Lions took the final quarter 14-9.
In addition to Day’s 29 points, Warren finished with 14 and Jeffrey had seven to lead Pineville.
Harlan was led by Travis Harrison’s 10 points. Tyler Frazier had eight while Justin Parker and Jecory Fields added six each.
Pineville, the defending 51st District champions, will open the regular season at Williamsburg on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
